Just like Incredibles 2, I don't understand how Pixar can make such a weak film when it has all the resources and items necessary to make a masterpiece.
This film isn't bad by any means, but I found myself disinterested, and bored by the plot and the situations. It all just felt too refined, it felt like a film made by committee and with its delays and switching of writers you can tell which ideas were kept through the entire process.
I honestly cared little to nothing about the toys and their struggles. It never pushed deep enough, which is odd because Pixar pioneered that.
I will say what really pushes this movie above mediocrity for me and it's the visuals, my god, this film is stunning, no that word is too weak, the film is quite literally breath taking. The effects and realism and colors and the lighting and all the techniques and methods that Pixar, and only Pixar seem to push are absurdly gorgeous. Every frame of this film is immaculately designed and articulated.
Pixar might have lost their voice, but their digital designers and animators are proving to the world how beautiful and striking digital animation can be.
So, in ending,
7/10
It's a forgettable but visually astonishing piece of work. Toy Story fans will eat this up, but for everyone else it’s simply a good film.
